Welcome to Queen's PM&R
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Queen's University is a five-year residency program which is fully accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). We are proud to offer our residents a challenging, yet highly rewarding educational experience. I invite you to learn more about our program. Its key strengths include:
The Program Structure
The Queen’s PM&R program curriculum has a unique design, integrating a spiral curriculum and longitudinal components. The longitudinal experiences in neuromuscular medicine and amputee rehabilitation provide residents with horizontal exposure to critical components of the program. Residents also rotate through rehabilitation rotations (eg. stroke, SCI, ABI, MSK) during their Foundations of Discipline stage, and revisit these rotations during their Core of Discipline stage, provided repeated exposure to these critical areas of rehabilitation, and graduated responsibility from junior to senior levels.
Individual Professional Responsibility
A system of graduated responsibility throughout the Competence by Design stages of training allows residents to take on increasing leadership roles and enhanced clinical, administrative, and academic responsibilities equivalent to those of a junior consultant.
Service/Education Balance
Inpatient wards are fully staffed by Hospitalists and Nurse Practitioners and can function without resident support. This allows residents to fully maximize their educational experience by focusing their time on activities with the most educational value.
Dedicated Faculty
Our faculty members are dedicated to education, and all resident educational activities are supervised directly by a faculty member. We foster a culture of bidirectional feedback in our program, and resident input is sought and valued for all educational innovations and changes.
Program Size
The small size of the program facilitates close working relationships between residents, faculty, and allied health professionals in a friendly and supportive working environment.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions about the Queen's PM&R residency training program. I look forward to hearing from you.
